Aperitivo Ad Arte Bargello

Aperitivo ad Arte: Bargello Museum

The Aperitivo ad Arte in Florence is an incredible opportunity to see the most famous Museum in Florence, with a glass of prosecco and a plate of food to sweeten the deal. It just so happens that “with a glass of prosecco” is my favorite way to see a museum.

This Aperitivo was my favorite initiative by the city last year, when they announced a limited number of dates for the Uffizi Aperitivo ad Arte during Summer 2012, so I was thrilled when they announced that for Summer 2013 not only would it be going on for much longer, but would also include the Bargello and Accademia museums.

This past week I went with a few friends to the Tuesday night aperitivo at the Bargello. It was unfortunately raining, but it did add a mysterious atmosphere to an already mysterious setting.

I was pleasantly surprised that not only could you enjoy your drink and the buffet in the coutryard, but some of the rooms were open as well. Every half hour a man in a traditional Florentine costume would come playing a flute and like a pied piper lead us through a few of the rooms of the Bargello. In each room was an actor who told the story of a historical figure connected with the Bargello. Famous Florentines, including Machiavelli, recounted us the stories of their emprisonment in the Bargello. The pouring rain and lightning really were fitting.

Although the temperature seems to have dropped a few degrees and the Autumn rainstorms are starting to roll through, I for one will be hanging onto Summer for as long as possible! What better way than these last remaining dates for an Aperitivo at a world class museum? I hope they continue with this initiative for the 2014 season as well, and can’t wait to see what new spin they come up with!
